At Sunnyside Nursery we recognise that each child is different, with his/her own interests, abilities and developing view of the world. We respect the many different forms of family life that children may experience as well as their social and cultural backgrounds. Therefore, from the induction process we begin to work in partnership with parents to develop the best programme of learning & support for their child's overall development.
We adopt the philosophy that children learn through play. Therefore, during each session, children aged from 1 to 4 years will have time to fully explore their learning area during free-play. Children are supported to develop independence to select various activities of their choice whilst being fully supervised. Each key person supports their group to explore each area, developing their understanding and increasing their knowledge.
As we are aware that children of different ages have different needs, we have organised our setting to meet those needs. This allows each child to prosper in a healthy and secure atmosphere; experiencing age and/or stage-specific learning.

Blossoms Room
These children are becoming ever more curious and interested in the world around them. Time to be creative, confident and unique is essential.
In the 2-3 room there are plenty of opportunities to build on those newly founded sensory skills through heuristic play and music times. Activities are readily available for all age groups. Creative experiences are also always available, for example themed water play, sand play and an array of 'messy' materials from clay to junk modelling.
We appreciate that there are times during the day that children just need quiet time so stories, puzzles, age appropriate games and language development activities are always on the go. At this age children regularly test the boundaries and they are rightly finding their feet with what is acceptable and unacceptable; but with care and consideration from our team they are guided in the right direction!
The children have free access all day to ICT facilities, construction, messy play and make believe to name but a few. All children have access to outdoor play on a daily basis whatever the weather.
Poppies Room
Preschool children have a hunger for learning and need stimulation and varied activities that support their transition into school. Learning resources are utilised to ensure that all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage are explored. Children are encouraged to learn through developmentally appropriate planned, purposeful play with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities. Activities are carefully planned to take into account the age, stage and aptitude of each individual child. Our named key person system enables us to ensure a planned curriculum tailored to meet the needs of each individual child. Children are encouraged to progress at their own pace providing firm foundations in preparation for the more formal environment of school.
The nursery comprises three main areas a quiet area, messy area and free play area for small and large group play. Our daily activities and free play cover all aspects of learning.
