                                                                                   Procedures & Policies

General outline on the main procedures and policies are outlined below for any details and specific policies please contact us and these are available on request.

Inclusion Policy:

We endeavor to ensure that at all times our nursery is open to all children and families.  We include and not disadvantage anyone because of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties or disabilities, gender or ability.  All children, including those who are disabled or have special educational needs, will be included, valued and supported and reasonable adjustments will be made for them, to ensure that they have the opportunity to have full access to the services that we provide.

Festivals

We will show respectful awareness of all major events in the lives of our children and families in the Nursery, and in our society as a whole, and to welcome the diversity of backgrounds from which they come, we will do this by:

Planning activities that educate and inform all children about special religious or cultural events.

Providing for the children dressing up and role-play clothing that reflect their religion and culture.

Display positive images of different groups around the play environment.

Teach the children through activities, discussion and play to value and celebrate differences.

Activities and the use of play equipment offer children opportunities to develop in an environment free from prejudice and discrimination.  Management of resources within the Nursery will ensure that both girls and boys have full access to all kinds of activities and equipment and are equally encouraged to enjoy and learn from them.  Appropriate opportunities will be given to children to explore, acknowledge and value similarities and differences between themselves and others

Partnership with Parents

Good communication between the nursery and the home is essential.  Children achieve more when the nursery and parents work together.  Parents can help more if they know what the nursery is trying to achieve, and how they can help.  In our nursery we aim to have clear and effective communication with parents and the wider community.  Effective communication enables us to share our aims and values through keeping parents well informed about the nursery life.  This reinforces the importance of the role that parents play in supporting the nursery in educating their child.  We communicate with parents through a range of different strategies.  Some of our communications are the result of a statutory requirement, others reflect what we believe is important to our nursery.

As well as receiving the annual written report, parents meet their child’s Key person annually (June/July) for a private consultation.  This gives parents the opportunity to celebrate their child’s successes and support the child with any areas of development.

All children have a parent’s observation sheet.  This enables parents to record a wide range of information that they share regularly with the nursery.

The nursery encourages parents to share any issues about their child at the earliest opportunity.

Provide opportunities for parents to learn about the nurseries framework and about young children’s learning, in nursery and at home.

Settling In:

When possible, ‘stay & play’ visits will be arranged prior to your child’s official admission date, in order to enable your child to familiarise him/herself with the nursery, their play mates and Key Person.

Settling in of children is compulsory, on arrival parent and child are welcomed by the Supervisor or Key person and then shown round the nursery.  Your child will be encouraged and supported to put away their belongings in the hall area and subsequently you and your child will be directed into the playroom to be introduced to the other adults and children in their room.

Parent and child will be together in the playroom for the whole settling in period.  Parent/guardian can part from the child for short periods of time (5-10min) as the days increase. Parent and/or guardian will be expected to stay as is stated below:

•Day 1 one hour

•Day 2 one hours

•Day 3 one hours
